Abs Workout – How to work your CORE stability?
Working out your abdominal muscles it´s a common routine in any exercise program and these type of exercises consist mainly in exercises like sit ups, with no specific attention in how the CORE functions, which may not be the correct way to workout. In the last years the word “CORE” became popular even in general population, but what´s the CORE? CORE stands for all muscle region around our centre of gravity (abdominal, lumbar, pelvic and hip muscles) so it´s the “centre” of our body.
What´s the CORE true “role”? To help spare our spine from excessive loads! So for that to happen we have to have a good stability around that region to protect our spine and to function as a stable centre for our extremities (arms/legs) move in an efficient way.
How to work out your CORE stability? Most of the “traditional” exercises are not functional and many of them put your spine in a disadvantageous position giving to much emphasis on spine mobility and not on spine stability. A spine with too much movement and no stability will increase the risk to have low back pain! Also they emphasis on superficial muscle rather the deep muscle which are responsible for your spine protection.
Having a stable CORE will take off excessive load from your spine so you can get significant benefits in your fitness level, your posture, your function on your daily living. It’s extremely important for patients with low back pain, but the exercises should be adjusted for your specific pathology, so look always for a specialized health professional to help you go back to your routine pain-free!
